According to the British car manufacturers and Dealers Association ( Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, SMMT ) published data, in 2010 the output of British car reached up to 1.27 million and grew by 27%, ranking No.12 in the world and No.4 in the European countries , behind Germany, Spain and France.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics ( ONS ) published data, in 2008 the British car industry enterprises had 3319, accounting for2.5% of the total UK manufacturing enterprises. Among them, the number of vehicle and engine manufacturing enterprise were 752, parts enterprises were1673, the vehicle manufacturing enterprises were 894 and the production of automotive electronics enterprises were 201. In 2008 the number of British car manufacturing employments had 180000 which accounted for 6.3% of the UK manufacturing employment. The annual sales volume of ￡50.6 billions(2010).

Political

The British government for the development of domestic automobile industry, has published many policies. From 2008, the British government has provided￡2000 subsidy to vehicle owners for exchange more efficient cars who own car for more than 10 years of service life, so as to promote the development in automobile industry. We provide business with a clear signal that we support the development of green economy, and hope to become the world leader in low carbon vehicle."
